Great stuff Bob.

Well that's not a bad effort by a long way, and the figure and reflection make it for me Bob, but I always have figures somewhere

Thanks very much, Shaun and Derek. Your comments are very much appreciated.

Like it very much my favourite artist/

Thanks very much Donna. Yes I know you like monet. Me too. 😀

Thank you very much Melanie. Appreciate your comment

The figure introduces a focal point Bob and you have placed it well. A very good after thought. Walking over and into the painting, nice little touch of movement. You have done well to tackle a not so easy a subject. The background gives a good sense of distance with the colour fading out. Making the foreground darker would have given some needed extra depth. Always use your artistic licence to make your painting work rather than putting in what the photo seems to be saying. Use the photo for reference don't be dominated by it. You have shown that by adding the figure. Lots of good things in this Bob keep going and enjoy it.

John, thank you so much for your comprehensive and sensitive criticism. Something that I definitely require, as a "new" artist. To be honest, I didn't follow the image slavishly. I added the pampas grass on the left and essentially made up the foliage on the right. You are right, though. I do find it difficult to put aside the comfort of the reference image, and it is something that I am consciously working on. Again, I very much appreciate you taking the time to comment so fully. Thank you very much!

A bridging loan???? I used an image taken from the TV as reference of Monet's lily pond. This is pretty much everything I have trouble painting (specially foliage !) so I thought it would be good practice. I added the figure as an afterthought and now wished I hadn't. Oil on canvas. 18"x14"
