Don't beat yourself up. None of my acrylics are oil paintings either!

Thanks Tony , I'm not. Just seeing how oils work. I've had a little set of paints for about 4 months and just built up the courage to use them. Wasn't too worried about the actual image.

Hi Bob, well if you want a smooth effect , but for texture a medium canvas is a good start. Anyway judging from your start here you are on the right road.

Thanks very much, John. I enjoyed using them. I'll continue to play with them for a bit.

Well I think this is a great nighttime scene Bob.

MDF is not a drawback Bob, have you tried priming them with Gesso? This is a challenging subject to try for a first. The moon would have greater reflections and colours, but once again keep at it.

The first of many hopefully Bob, have you tried using a knife wet in wet with your oils?

Thank you very much, once again, Derek and Fiona for your encouragement. It has helped me very much over the last year of painting. Can't believe it's been a year already !! Derek, (sir😊) yes I primed the board, and it was simply going to be sky, horizon and water to see how the paint worked but wanted to try as many techniques (stippling for trees, sgraffito etc) as I could think of. Some worked, some didn't. But that was the exercise. I used a cheap set of hogs hair brushes but frankly I thought they were pants!! Any tips on this one, ladies and gents? Fiona, no I've not used a knife yet but I think it might be useful for the future. sort of scares me a little !! Thanks all, once again. Looking forward to the next year!!

I've got some knives you could use Bob!! Well done on your first oil you certainly have come a long way in a year.

Cheers for the knives, Donna. I might take you up on that a ta later date> And thank you very much for the comment! It's been fun!
