Knee deep in leaves.

What a lovely autumnal scene! You’ve really got the feel of the end of summer and the changing of the seasons here. What a shame no one is following you in your clearing work! It seems difficult to find younger people to do this kind of work. I’m sure someone would really enjoy it if they took the plunge.

I agree Paul and a lovely watercolour too

Lovely Paul, I love the autumn colours.

A beautiful color combination, a real autumn atmosphere.

Beautiful 🙂

A lovely autumn scene!

Thank you Tessa, Heather,Denise, Lea, Faye , Christine, and David for your kind comments. Who ever take up the job will need to undergo training and unfortunately like a lot of thing Tessa it’s not getting the funding also the full time staff have been cut to less than half . Unfortunately they made the most experienced people redundant as it is cheaper to keep the younger ones . This is where my ashes will be scattered, it’s all arranged but I hope it’s going to be a while yet.

I agree with what you’ve said Paul. The view is beautifully painted and it would be a shame if it could not be kept to the standard it was at before.

Thank you Spencer , it’s been three years since any work was last done and unfortunately it’s already deteriorated a lot. The wicker fence was built from the ash saplings we cut down they this has collapsed due to the fence been old and not replaced or repaired, nature will take it back as it does with everything. I’m proud of what I and my small team did , given that the hillfort is 2, 500 + old our ten years is but a blink in time but was a great time for us.

Autumn is a lovely season and you've done it proud with this delightful watercolour Paul.

Nice one Paul....super colour's.

Lovely autumn colours - nice one, Paul!

Thank you Sylvia and Anne for your kind comments.

Very evocative of the season, Paul. Nicely done!

Watercolour of Pulpit Hill near the hillfort in autumn. I’m worked this area for ten years clearing the saplings etc to create this view. I was surprised every year at the amount of beech leaves that fell it was as if the ground was covered in copper/ red snow thousands upon thousands of leaves . So deep in some places that the Land Rover struggled to grip and would slide about. Unfortunately it’s returning to its former state as since covid and my retirement it’s no longer looked after.

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
