Impressionistic?? You tell me

Impressionistic?? You tell me

I keep passing by and thinking about this one....the colours are right but I think you need thicker paint, especially in the foreground. Sometimes I find that if you leave paint in the stay wet palette it becomes too thin, better to add fresh blobs of paint when you start again and use up the older paint where it doesn't matter so much. Also, the heavier body acrylics lend themselves more to the impressionistic effect with pure dabs of colour placed next to each other, rather than a lot of mixing. Mind you, I'm still learning too and I certainly make many mistakes- painting isn't always relaxing!

Thank you Marjorie, I have decided it's not in that style apart from as you say the colours may be passable. You are very right about the staywet and the way paint is on it. Yes, too thin. I am doing more reading and viewing videos to help.

Actually I rather like this piece, even if it isn't traditionally in the impressionistic style. The palette is super and I love the shapes of the background as the village and mountains come together.

Thanks Seok, I am not pleased with it but it was a try out and they must be tried.

Derek, Really like this landscape. Most definitely Impressionist. Keep it up.

Thanks Martin, I have ditched this piece and trying other stuff.

First real attempt at the style, 3 hrs today, lunch in the middle. 40 x 40 board. More to do I reckon, but any guides? Maybe my brush work is too evident in the foreground. Must get the paint to flow easier without too much water. Using a stay wet palette, but may change to something more suitable if you have any ideas. I quite like the idea of just using a piece of white plastic board. Still learning.

Eleventyeight as my hashing pals called my new age recently, it's supposed to sound better. Trying to paint every day in acrylics using only expired credit/debit cards, and partially succeeding as they're only for me and not show these days.
