Can see the Kirchner influence, a slightly thinned paint look to this with the use of brushes, but a very interesting array of shapes and lines.

Thanks Andre, I was interested in the array of shapes and lines first, then colours and lastly but sadly neatness

Interesting bold abstract, Derek. (At first glance it reminded me of books falling off a shelf!)

Cheers Jenny, see what you want in abstracts I reckon.

Derek I like the shapes and colours. I know how difficult it is to get the lines neat and uniform, from experience. If it helps I use 'sword' style brushes ( a flat brush with a sharp angled edge) to get the best line. Sometimes I use the side of an old credit card or similar. ( but this is more haphazard). Also I scumble paint in corners and edges (either darker or lighter than the main shape colour) of the 'shape' which both adds to the shape colour and can be used to disguise a few ' over the line' marks if needed! I hope this helps but feel free to ignore it too! I also like the fact that the lines are not all uniform appearance personally, and like them to disappear in places, but it is irritating if that's not what you wanted. It might make more sense if you look closely at my Deer in the Forest painting to see what I mean.

Thank you Janet, most kind suggestions. I keep thinking it's old age and other complications I have and then I say must try again. I will take a look at that work and thanks again.

Sorry about the War & Peace length comment!

I like this Derek, it speaks to me of the everyday objects we leave lying around ( in my case a lot! ). I see walls, surfaces, books, shelves etc. Your draughtsmanship comes in here I think.

Thanks again Janet and Marjorie

Keep experimenting and moving forward Derek, you are producing some interesting work, well, I think so anyway.

Wonderful tension with balance Derek

A lovely abstract painting with so many bright and beautiful shapes, I love it so much :)

Thank you Alan, dennis and Maria

Shapes, shapes, shapes - love it.

Cheers Michael, those were the initial ideas.

Striking and vibrant Derek, Good'un!

Thank you Carole

40 x 50cms on board. Kirchner inspired. On the reverse of somethibg else. Initial colour conscious shapes with cards and am aiming to use brushes more but not accurate enough. The mistakes are there and the lines were purposely thick in some marks to hide the errors. Could be viewed either way up or sideways.

Eleventyeight as my hashing pals called my new age recently, it's supposed to sound better. Trying to paint every day in acrylics using only expired credit/debit cards, and partially succeeding as they're only for me and not show these days.
