The "Balneil" Lancashire Steel Manufacturing Co's (LSMC) main steam engine

What memories you must have Denis, good painting.

I can see the Lowry style, excellent painting 🎨

Before reading the information about this painting, I was thinking it looked like a Lowry. I’m a big fan of his work and you’ve done a great job!

You've captured the 1960s industrial landscape beautifully. Sort of Lowry-esque - but definitely your own style.

Thank you for your kind comments Heather, Spencer, Stephen, Diana, Bobbie and Coral

The "Balneil" in 1963 being driven by my Granddad "Owd" Bill Bennett, after both came to LSMC Irlam from Wigan's Iron & Coal Plant in 1937. I painted this with a nod to Lowry's style and palette as he lived in Salford right next door to Irlam and I grew up in the adjacent village of Cadishead. I will never forget the sight of the sky turning red at night when "Owd Bill" and Balneil were "tipping ladles" of unwanted molten metal from the manufacturing process onto the "slag heap" not far from where I lived.
