I love your shadows, they are perfectly placed, it really makes the picture pop. I would love to walk down that lane it looks very inviting.

Thank you for those encouraging comments, Jennifer. In the 1950's a young girl walked down that lane every morning to Hartington Primary School and 3 years ago she saw my first painting of this scene in an exhibition at that same school and bought it. Now that is what makes painting satisfying for me. This scene is also part of a really good 3 mile circular walk from Hartington.

I can see why she purchased it, it's lovely, and obviously it brought back some wonderful memories.

Thank you all, glad it has appeal for you as well. I just love the way barns and trees glow in what I call "storm lighting". I do find it hard to do justice to it in watercolour, though. The sky will be even darker and more purple-grey next time I do it.

This is a subject I keep returning to, and this was painted at home after being inspired by the strong winter sunshine a few days ago. I just love the combination of dark clouds and low sun, and one day I'll capture it the way I want.
