Very good David. I did a sketch of a similar tower whilst on holiday in Majorca (do you remember those happy days when we could?) Apparently we copied the design from an enemy tower, which defied the might of the British navy for some time. The round construction deflected the cannonballs, until the explosive shell was designed.

Thanks for that, Stephen. Yes, I've spent many happy weeks in Majorca but have no burning desire to return to the cattle market of airport terminals yet. There are still a dozen Martello towers on the East Anglian coast, some of them now holiday homes.
