Brilliant, great texture to peeling paint, the rust is really good.

I always find these types of subjects interesting…usually an old rusty padlock or a latch - this is great Russell, and we’ve got some fabulous flaking paint as well, layers of it in fact!

It's a really lovely painting and I know exactly what you mean about the pressure being off when you don't have to do a portrait!

Good to see you take on a different challenge Russell, and so successfully. Can’t beat a bit of rust! I like it very much.

That's how to paint rust and flaking paint. Brilliant.

This is so lifelike. The peeling paint and rust are very good. Yes it is nice at times to do something different.

Superb artwork Russell.

Love this type of subject and you have done a great job with it Russell. I agree about choosing something different and it energises you I think. Interestingly, I have a couple of similar subjects which I keep looking at but don’t start….

Great job Russell. Love the subject!

This looks great Russell.

This is so tactile Russell - the peeling paint, the wood grain and that very rusty, rust. Brilliant.

Wondering textures, the rust is very well done Russell.

Great job Russell and near perfect circles

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments, always greatly appreciated.

Absolutely love those textures and shadows, Russell!

It looks like you enjoyed this Russell. Fabulous piece full of interest

This is absolutely stunning Russell. The detail of the flaking paint and rusting handle is amazing.

You've achieved some really great texture and I like the accuracy of your brushwork given the small scale of the piece.

Superb composition and palette that tells a story.

Just fantastic!

10" x 8" oil Nice to do something without having to think of capturing a 'likeness.' Really enjoyed the process regardless of end result.
