Confused. 'Vicky selfie' but painted/drawn by Russell Edwards? Are we to assume this was a phone cam selfie that was translated to charcoal in some way? How?

Brian it's from a 'selfie' photograph of my daughter in law. It's not digital or a photograph that's been manipulated etc. It's simply drawn in charcoal so in some respect I guess it 'was translated to charcoal in some way.'
