The Big Freeze of ‘63

Comments

A beautiful painting with so much excellent detailing. I arrived back in England in early December, having live in Cyprus for three years , what a shock the cold was then it seemed to snow for ever.

I remember that weather. This painting is wonderful David, with your usual high standard of detail.

Perfection David.

Exquisite. Beautifully rendered. I arrived in England in January 1963, the coldest winter in 40 years. This whole scene reminds me of my 16 year old self at Dulwich railway station, which was as bleak and barren as depicted above. I can relive the bitterly cold wind on the platform and the train arriving to take us into Victoria station.

A very Surrealist feel to this !! But it was exactly like you depict. I can feel the cold...

The good old days of proper weather, This really reminds us of what snow feels like. Brilliant.

Remember it. Great painting, David

Lisburn railway station Co. Antrim, my hometown in the grip of severe winter of 1963. It started snowing on Boxing Day, I was 8 and my two stand out memories were opening the window of our house and inscribing a perfect arc in the snow such was the depth and my father building me an igloo in the front garden which became our gangs HQ until it melted in March, 😄. Enjoy
