The picture is making a bit more sense now with the roughly painted chinook in the background causing the dense cloud of dust that is fundamental to this image. As it happens, the men are unlikely to disembark in this spread out way and would rather be likely to come of in a compact double column. I have used a bit of artistic license in this instance to improve the composition in the landscape format I had chosen............ This type of art is a bit of a trade off sometimes between recording an instance faithfully and producing an appealing picture; it was a bit of a stretch, but the RSM (Regimental sergeant major) a very operationally experienced chap; said that it was fine. ........... For the artists, I often use, as I did in this instance, a quite limited palette. With this it was mainly warms from yellow ochre, burnt sienna and burnt umber with warm darks produced from burnt umber and ultramarine. The 'cools were mainly raw sienna (including the primer) raw umber and cobalt blue in varying combinations.
