Waiting by Catherine Corfield

A charming painting especially reading the story behind it

I think there is a greater significance to this painting than you describe in terms of its value as a work of art. There is an air of sadness which surrounds it. I can see that it is twilight and the figure before long will be submerged in darkness. So much meaning in that. How long has the figure been waiting? What is she waiting for? I know you have explained your story behind it but this painting is far greater. It could be a picture about the covid as it has affected the world in general. In any case there is a melancholy power here and I think it is a great work.

Thank you I really appreciate your comments, there was definitely an air of sadness felt when painting it, that’s one of the reasons I chose not to add any fireworks. I’m really glad it translated that way.

A lovely painting which is telling me a story even without your explanation Catherine and very well painted.

A small study competed last night. The 5th November was different for us all this year due to lockdown, my little girl sat in the window sill waiting to see a some fireworks, I wanted to capture this little moment not only for the evening but for our present situation.
