Kellerjoch in winter

Another superb painting. The colours used are very calming - I'm sure this could look very different in other weather conditions.

Lovely! I do like the way that you've made the Kellerjoch the subject of the painting, whilst still giving a real sense of distance. Having just a small amount of the foreground ridge painted more strongly seems to me to solve this problem beautifully.

“Kellerjoch in winter”, Schwaz, Tirol, Austria. 76x56cm, watercolour on Arches rough 300g. I painted this landscape last fall already, but now with the snow covered mountains it looked even more attractive. I love the dynamic shapes the shadows create on the snowfields. You will see on the highest peak there is a chapel (2344m). If you follow the mountain ridge to the right you find the “Kellerjoch”-hut (2237m) and even more to the right further down there is the “Hecher”-hut (1887m). To this point you can go up by lift and take the ski-slope down. Here I learned skiing when I was a schoolboy. During I painted this picture this afternoon our own boys had been skiing right there. What an incident! Hope you like my winter landscape painting!
