DERBYSHIRE LANE ---Watercolour on black underpainting

What an atmospheric painting I like everything, however the trees are my favourite. Derbyshire is a wonderful place to visit. I think I need to go futher afield to obtain pictures like this for my portfolio to paint. To change the lighting in a photo for a different effect.....not an easy task. You have a lovely gallery Mr Wilby.

To me, it sounds like a difficult technique, but in this painting you have produced a very effective result. I particularly like the blue of the sky - just the right tone. Well done, Charles.

Your technique seems to produce wonderful paintings - this is a lovely image.

Lovely painting Charles

A beautiful scene Charles, those stone walls are very realistic. Sounds a complicated business painting on a black ground, you have mastered it well!

Very nice watercolour Charles and an interesting technique. Is the black underpainting only in the dark areas or have you added bodycolour for the lights?

I wouldn't know where to start Charles, I think I may have mentioned before about having trouble getting watercolour down on any background, never mind a black one. Wonderful composition and the light on the right hand tree and wall is perfect. What's more Charles, I'm a Derbyshire lass and it has the best counry lanes in Christendom, so it's a winner for me all round! Thanks for the message about the book, hope your friend is successful.

This is really lovely work Charles and a very striking and interesting technique. Thank you by the way for your kind comments on my latest.

I'm pleased that your friend "Arthur" is at bay. You gallery shows how versatile watercolour is. Fantastic.

Brilliant stuff - well appreciated

Stupendous, Charles! Absolutely stunning work!

Lovely work Charles. You seem to produce these fine paintings at will. Your watercolours have lovely definition, and the strength of gouache. Full Marks!

Painted on Bockingford 250lb not -- Watercolour on black underpainting --- From one of my photos taken on March 11th this year ( 2012 ) A very sunny day with beautiful blue sky and 19 degrees-Not what I wanted to painted, so I did what I often do changed the mood ( did it my way ) --- I gave it a moody sky with a little light coming in on the right hand side. -- On the left the two trees behind the front one went out the top of the photo so I painted them in smaller to give more depth.-- Enjoying this technique but needs a lot more sorting out yet
