G'day Chas , whilst liking both paintings on this subject, I think overall I prefer this one in that I feel able to enter into this scene more easily. The first one , I felt , had a flat area immediately on the left which kept my eye too long and didn't allow entry into the subject. Am not sure whether it is the tone value of fore and distant trees that are too similar and didn't allow entry - or just my glasses needing cleaning. Hope you aren't offended in any way by these comments as I do enjoy seeing your work on this site.

Beautiful texture and colour in this muddy lane Chas. It's asking to be walked along with welly boots on and puddles to jump in.

Chas I usually dislike "black " in paintings but your use of Indian ink works incredibly well. Lovely .
