On Hastings beach

well I recognised the trawler and the beach at Hastings straight away. I also love painting these, and was sure I had 'done' the RX142 but have just had a flip through mine & cannot find it now, tis a typical model from this fleet though, very attractive wee trawlers. It isn't an easy subject, there are so many boats and so much equipment and junk lying around, you have done well isolating your subject and not trying to get them all in. You have the shape right and a bit of the old harbour wall to identify the place. You havent chosen the easiest angle, looking down on it, I find it easier looking up, or level with it

I admire any artist who paints boats well...Your composition is good...perhaps a little more emphasis on the boat itself? , which is the true subject of the painting.....I really like this...the sky always features largely in any sea painting with boats, as in this work.

Thank you Jenny and Ruth for your comments. Ruth, this is the first time I have ever tried to paint a boat so I take great encouragement from your comments. Jenny -it sounds as if you know Hastings beach well -do you live in the area? I have to admit that I was very selective when deciding what to include and I purposely left out boats beyond RX142 as this was my first attempt at boats. Have you posted any of your boat pics. on this gallery -I haven't been able to find any.

Carol this is super! If it's the first time you have painted a boat, I think you may have found your niche! Another subject I shy away from because they are difficult to get right, you however, don't seem to have had that problem...it's spot on!

The others are right, Carol, a seaman once told me that so many artists paint boats that annoy him as they just don't look convincing. Yours looks convincing. I live in Hailsham, Carol, don't drive but I do persuade my husband to take me to Hastings several times a year. I love working boats and love the boats on the Stade. No, I havent put any on here yet - have just found your comment after posting one for today (but it is boats at Newhaven, LOL) and don't want to annoy people by multiple posting. I will shove some Hastings ones on during this week.
