I knew this was you Carole - I remember the first. Excellent rocks once again. So very well done. Jeannette

Cheers Jeannette, tried flourescent blue in my water too - just to see what it did. I noticed you were on-line as you just left a comment on the dogs - me too aren't they great.

Thankyou Beatrice. :)

Nice painting, you really got out the roughness of those rocks.

Great painting.... in theory the composition shouldnt work as it's essentially a circle slap bang in the middle, however the way you separate the water and rocks with colour and texture and balance light in the top right with shadow in the bottom left keeps the eyes moving around.... very nice indeed .... Steve

Yes I see what you mean Steve, I'm quite a one for lacking composition, just see it, like it, paint it. I will learn. However, that said - you are very kind, thankyou

thanks for your comments on my salmon leap painting, yes it was a bit heavy handed with the watercolour, and I used some white guache for the water and splashes, so i know what you mean! this painting of yours is great. i dont agree with the above comment on composition, as the eyeline is less than a third of the way up the picture the "hole" is not in the exact centre. the rocks are really good.and the water leads your eye through the gap, with the patterns of rocks leading the eye all around the picture. well done

John, thankyou. I never knew I was a rebel!

Hi Bernie - Your painting didn't look heavy handed to me, just richer than watercolour. I really appreciate your comments on my picture, thankyou so much

What can I say that hasn't already been said. The rocks are fantastic but then your rocks and sea always are! As far as I'm concerned there is absolutely nothing wrong with the composition, I only wish I could have painted it myself, I'd be very proud. Brilliant.

Gosh i seem to have stirred up a can of wrigglies.... just to clarify i wasn't saying the composition doesn't work, quite the opposite, i was saying that if we were to believe the text books it shouldn't. However i'm with John, it's definitley good to break rules in painting. I'm like you Carole, i don't paint for profit so anything is fair game....if i see it, and i like it, i paint it regardless of compositional worries....just wish i had more time to spend painting, i'm lucky if i get an hour or two a month, sometimes i have gone years without picking up a brush ....anyway i'm waffling, to recap .... In my rambling way i was saying in my post that this is a great painting :o)...Steve

Val wow, thanks for such a compliment. Thank you

Poor Steve you are getting a bit of a battering - I knew what you meant. I feel bad for you if painting is taking such a back seat - I'm very lucky to have almost the entire week if I want it - trouble is I really must get a job! Anyway, tahnk you again for liking my painting

i love the rocks, and the blue of the water........

Cheers Ruthy - how are you today? Feeling a little more comfy around here yet?

Found another shot of my very first painting (Capri Sailing - watercolour), so decided to have another go this time with acrylics. I wanted to capture the rocks pushing majestically upwards out of the sea.
