I've been wondering what to say about this - it exhausts my stock of superlatives. It has just about everything I want in a landscape painting, from sense of place and atmosphere to those touches of detail which bring a picture to life. That superb old tree is the star of the painting and its colour is perfect - it conveys the cold of the day, and the stillness, and yet the painting isn't cold or static. One of several masterpieces in your gallery.
