You have such a distinctive style which I REALLY like. Your portraits have a real renaissance quality about them in terms of using darks to such a good effect … something I think I'm going to have a got at next. You also have a looseness of style and manage to convey real emotion through your portraits. Do you paint from life or photographs?

Thank you for the kind comments. My paintings are generally partly from life, wish I could do more from life unfortunately work stops play, and in part from photographs. My complete life paintings/drawing look different, possibly more loose.

This is really lovely, the light is amazing and agree it has a renaissance feel to it :)

A striking portrait of this lovely young lady.

Beautiful lighting. So dramatic.

Wonderful painting Robert.

Great chiaroscuro technique Robert

Lovely portrait. The light and dark contrast is fabulous.

In my ignorance I had to look up what "chiaroscuro" is. Sometimes I can pick up a brush and not have clue what end to hold, yes that is what I love to draw and paint. Perhaps too many years of walking around churches and galleries? Or perhaps not enough years to get bored with it. I would love to explore this technique or method more. Without pinching someone else's work it becomes a problem. Who could not but admire the paintings of the great artists, I purposely will not say any definite period or technique as the are some many brilliant artists around today as there as been through time, and use them for inspiration. The list would be too long.

Beautifully painted, Robert - a lovely portrait.

Moody and dramatic, a fabulous portrait.

Brilliant portrait, love the light and shade !!

This is a real treat for the eye, Robert, I have to agree with all the other comments...yours too!

I like this a lot!.. Its one of those paintings you can look at for a long time without getting bored... Lovely expression!

So beautifully painted and with expression too, Robert. Love all your portraits.

Great portrtait, Robert, wonderful dark and light.

Stunningly good portrait, Robert. It's alive.

Beautiful light

For some reason, portraits, unless they're commissioned or of a known person, don't sell, but THIS one! Who wouldn't be happy to have her on the wall with her intelligent, questioning regard like she's actually listening to the on-looker and contemplating her reply.

Very strong portrait, Robert. Love it.

Outstanding portrait....love the young glow she has on her skin.

This is really beautifully painted. I love the light affect.
