Oh to be there, it looks wonderful Brian I can hear the sounds of the sea as I look at it.

Thank you very much, Val, for the kind comments. Appreciated. I know what you mean about the sounds. I felt this one needed some gulls because of the rocks. When I'd finished I went back to my first painting to drop in some gulls, then did the same with the third. I couldn't get the sound of gulls out of my head. Ended up painting 24 of the little suckers. lol Bri

Fabulous work, Brian. I think the gulls are a great addition. Your paintings come with sound effects...the surf, the breeze, the gulls. Great.

Stunning Brian. The ever changing sea is a very difficult subject but you seem to have the knack of harnessing it. Look forward to seeing all your paintings Brian.

Thank you very much, Lew, for the super comments. More than appreciated. Yes, I hummed and harred for an age over the gulls then followed my gut. There are always gulls by the rocks but not so many over open water. I'm honestly delighted you think they make a difference. Thanks for letting me know. Bri

We must have cross-posted, Carole. Thank you very much for the kind analysis and comments, especially as you're so familiar with the North Sea off the North East coast. Much appreciated. I'll place all the paintings together in "Work in Progress", in the Forum, once they're all finished. Bri

A painting to wake up the senses Brian....sight, smell and sound. Wonderful, especially the gulls, they look as though they have been whipped into a frenzie by the crashing waves.

This looks fabulous Brian! I love looking out at the sea.

I love to walk along a seashore, alone with my thoughts and drinking in the elements, the more inclement the better! This is simply superb and so evocative Brian.

Thank you very much, once again, Fiona, Margaret and Russell, for the kind and generous comments. Always appreciated. Yes, I think you've hit the nail on the head, Fiona. The gulls DO react to high seas, don't they, at least they seem to. I love looking out to sea, too, Margaret, it's such a relaxing and warming thing to do. "Alone with my thoughts and drinking in the elements". Right on the money, Russell. That's exactly how I felt as I stood on top of the dunes staring at the wonders of nature. I was delighted to read it evoked a memory or two because the meditative state of mind is clearly quite universal. Best to all Bri

Stunning painting. Really well executed.

Gorgeous seascape Brian, expressive and expertly rendered..

Thank you very much, Paul and Alan, for the kind and supportive comments. Much appreciated. I've placed a couple of figures on top of the main rock and reduced the size of the gulls to suggest scale. Delighted you liked this painting of one of my favourite places. Best to both Bri

OIl on canvas 50 x 40 cms. On May 4th 2019 I was confronted by an incredible North Sea at South Shields. It was a moment to just stop and look, to allow your mind to simply wander with the waves. This is the second painting in a series of four, with the third one completed this morning. Well, I say completed but...
