Like the strong shadows here Barry and the composition leading to the distant houses.

Thank you Stephen they were even stronger before the splatter.

That's just so good.

That really appeals Barry. A lovely simple scene very well done.

Thank you Lewis and Jim, I think keeping things simple usually works well.

Know what you mean Barry has a beautiful magic superb

Great touch Barry. It makes a fine painting.

Thank you Dennis and George, but remember I only post the ones that work lol.

I agree with you, Barry. This is beautiful.

Brilliant, lovely shades with your limited pallet 😀

Thank you Ellen and Linda.

Beautiful painting with a limited palette. I particularly admire the deft touches affecting aerial perspective, which combine effectively with your subtle linear application. Lovely long, blue grey shadows and dissipating misty dabs giving that early morning feel. There are hints of green and foliage, yet this has a cool winter look. Is there a heavy hoar-frost at work here, as well as snow? No problems at all btw; just wondering. Caught my eye immediately Brian

Love the shadows and sense of a misty morning, lovely painting.

Thanks Brian your senses haven’t let you down there is a frost present and I have used artistic licence to create a little more foliage than was actually present.

Thanks Andre the shadows were what sold it to me in the first instance.

I think you messed around with it just enough to end up with such a perfect scene. What a masterful piece!

Thank you Fiona from the reaction I think I will have to.

Thank you Timothy.

"Thanks Brian your senses haven’t let you down there is a frost present and I have used artistic licence to create a little more foliage than was actually present." Thanks for that, Barry. I asked because I'm in the process of revising another winter scene, where the frost gives the impression of foliage. Your painting reminded me of that naturally occurring phenomenon. It helps to give the painting a warmer feel, if that makes sense. Brian

It’s always difficult to know how much you can mess with your watercolours and get away with it. I painted this early morning scene and then did some splatter and lifting out in an attempt to add a tad more atmosphere. I enjoy doing this and seeing how it ends up, once you get a couple of successful pieces it can help to get rid of that fear of messing up a good painting.
