Love the colours combo, but gouache is difficult im finding. Your painting looks good though.

It's a new medium for myself too Julie,,trial and error yes, but keep on persisting as once you launch out it can be quite fascinating...gouache seems to produce a lasting effect, kind of adds definite marks that probably is more suitable for illustrations... When I dabbed yellow ochre and added spots of white it kind of allowed the pigments to say 'thats alright',lol! There is a certain flow with gouache as it dries quick so different from any other medium...

I too found that gouache dries very quickly and can be hard to get smooth results. I researched it a bit and found that adding a small amount of vegetable glycerin ( a clear liquid) to the paint will help it move better and smoother.
