"Rooks Ahoy"

Lovely and creative Angela.

Love your "Imagine it, paint it" method Angela. Lovely.

Thank you Heather,Rikke, Jim, and Spencer, It was painted after some research of our family history in the Lake district where some of these ancestors were mariners! The history dates back into 1760 and St Bees was one of the places where they originated from, so painted from imagination and later on created a book cover for another story about The North Sea. We visited the place where our great grandfather lived in Ennerdale, Cumbria, such a profound experience and connected with five other family members from other countries, some who emigrated to Australia like us! Having spent my childhood in Yorkshire and then living in two different countries since 1972 it was interesting connecting with others who are on our family tree. I felt inspired to write a chronological series of essays for each generation dating back into 1784 and where these ancestors originally lived in Cumbria. I painted Lake Bassenthwaite surrounds one morning at dawn and the hills looked profound so when I returned I started painting illustrations from photos I took while exploring The Lake district, it inspires even nowadays from these moments of reflection. I did paint a series of the Herdwick sheep from glimpses when there during our visit. I might embark on some other paintings from historical era but of course let the imagination express the premise!

A mixed medium painted in Acrylic and paper images of the Rooks as they swoop over to greet the sailing boat ...it was painted as an illustration for our family history story I wrote titled "The Rooks at Wythop Mill"... set in 1800's ..some distant relatives were Mariners and lived at St Bees, Cumbria. The Rooks flocked on the cliffs and flew over to greet a fishing boat when it returned to shore!
