Deep in thought

Good one Angela

Thank you Heather, I attempted this drawing yesterday from a photo and even though the nose was a wee bit out of alignment and the eyes needed some detail it is beginning to form, may work on it further and revisit again!

You’ve certainly achieved character in your drawing, I’m no expert but to me that is more important than precision.

Thank you Katy, I did this drawing recently from a photo, was trying to align the features then got carried away with the position of eyes, nose and lips, wasn't sure whether it looked like the photo as it revealed some obscure difference, and my daughter remarked that the nose was too broad so may re-visit it and see what happens next time! Its all practice but best if its a real sitting and one can draw in the present here and now!

Pencil portrait HB and 2B quick sketch and focus upon the eyes, nose and lips as aligning features from a photo. I felt a shift in the expression after drawing the nostrils and noticed the gap between the lips and nose were beginning to form in place. I did draw a conical shape and divided the face into sections which helped to align the eyes where there is depth around the orbits, but needed to expand the outer shape, so dividing the face into sections does aide position and structure.
