I painted this scene from a panorama view of ripe corn spread over a vast distance with a hamlet cottage in the background. It was inspired from writing a short story where someone had awoken from a dream. They had recently been grieving from the loss of a loved one, and one morning had ventured out and wandered through the yellow ripe corn. The soft feeling of the corn felt on their legs and arms released the emotional pain from the person who had been experiencing grief, awakening the senses to a new life, and returning to the cottage where old memories were cherished gave the person a sense of surrender and solace. I painted this scene from cherished memories of childhood, when we wandered freely along country lanes and the Cornfields were alive with yellow corn and dashes of green ripe stalks, and the scent of laburnum wafted gently in the breeze upon a Summer's Day in Yorkshire.
