Gorgeous rendering of roses with palette knife Amanda, super colours

At the risk of being misunderstood - and I sometimes am! - what I like about your work is that it's not pretty.... by which I mean it's neither sentimentalized nor romanticized. I should like to see this in the flesh, to benefit from the texture of the paint, but even in this form I can see the life in it and the honesty of it.

Thank you both, Robert, I understand completely what you mean, and I am taking what you say as a great compliment, not least because you have more or less described how I feel about making paintings. I have just uploaded some alternative views of this work to Flickr; you may be interested. http://www.flickr.com/photos/zalamanda/sets/72157633955693112/

At 12 x 15cm, this is rather a small painting for so much texture (it's heavy bodied acrylic, applied with a knife), but, then, they are miniature roses. The blog post - http://amanda-bates-artist.blogspot.com/2013/06/two-pink-roses.html - has a couple of in-progress shots if anyone is interested.
