I have had messy disasters with masking fluid, and ruined a pair of trousers (mind you, I do seem to be quite good at that - paint claimed the other pair). However, I've used it recently too - I prefer not to; actually I MUCH prefer not to. But yes, it has its uses. How - ie with what - did you apply it? I had one of those Masquepen things: it got clogged very early on, so the pen part was useless; I've used a colour shaper, but being totally non-absorbent it won't allow for a continuous line; I've used bits of matchstick; I've used dip pens - cleaning them obsessively and feverishly afterwards, knowing what the fluid can do; I've never risked a brush with it, even one rolled in soap as recommended. I'm told it works with ruling pens - but I haven't got one of those.... I don't trust the stuff at all...

I happened upon a cheap masking fluid brush in the Jackson's clearance brushes section; that's how I applied it.

Great work with masks and I don't blame your impatience Amanda

I have never owned or used masking fluid before. Quite effective, isn't it? The first version worked better, where I made the shadow after removing the masing fluid. In the second version, the masking fluid *appears* to have taken some of the ultramarine base layer off. Maybe it was still damp... I was impatient. (Size: ~width of A4. They are on either side of a free sample bit of handmade paper). ...................................................................................................................................................................................................... There's a watercolour of the masking fluid bottle (using a bit of the masking fluid) in the blog post: http://sketch.amandabatesart.co.uk/2015/02/masking-fluid.html
