Outside the English Barn

Outside the English Barn

It was the colours that caught my eye on this one Amanda! The blue/ greens against the peachy/pinks compliment each other so well! A bridesmaids nightmare but 'flesh tone' does have its uses at times :)

I adore the colours ( ahem my bridesmaids dresses were peach !!! ) well a sort of purply peach!

Thank you, both. Lynne, it was the particular shade of peach - quite unlike "purply peach", I assure you! It was also quite unlike any genuine skin colour (bad fake tans aside).

This is based on a monochrome photograph that I took over a decade ago. I don't know what the machine is, but it's almost certainly agricultural. And it was outside The English Barn, a listed building in Thatcham, Berkshire. The barn's still there - redeveloped - but the machine isn't. I painted it in colours I rarely use, avoiding white until the last few knife-strokes. There is quite a lot of a fairly obnoxious "Flesh tone" by Reeves - it's the sort of shade of peach that every potential bridesmaid dreads. Mixed well, though. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oil on canvas, 40 x 30 cm
