SOLD - D-Day by Alix Baker
Two old comrades sit on a park bench on Remembrance Day, wearing their poppies and campaign medals. Behind them stands a young soldier. Is he a lost brother or friend, or is he one of these old soldiers as he was on D-Day? The painting in the background is not a replica of the photo that lies beneath it but shows landing craft approaching the beaches of Normandy and creates a link between the figures, D-Day and the newspaper and suggests the mayhem that lies ahead.
