Lovely painting Alix, I am sure your client loves it

Thank you for your kind comment, Petra. I've been looking at your work and particularly love that most tricky painting you did of light through a marble. Stunning stuff.

A well-known genre - remember the paintings by SPY? - and this is a delightful example of it. The services keep this tradition alive these days, I think - years ago, there were magazines which published this sort of work, and you can still buy fantastic prints of schoolmasters, generals and admirals, judges and advocates, clergymen and statesmen, from the 1880s to the 1930s ... so pleasing to see you keeping the tradition going.

Thank you, Robert. I know Spy's work very well. This painting is one of a couple of styles I have for caricatures and they are quite fun to do and a change from painting larger more complicated pictures.

Hi Alix just seen your great comment on my oil painting Climbing Boots, i am pleased you liked them so much, i love your caricature above as well, lovely detail in the work, i know i should get back to doing some more oil paintings and one day i will, it is over 25 years since i painted those boots and one of my abiding memories of oil painting is the fuss it created, when i got back into art about 18 months ago via this website and discovered pastels and how easy they are to use and to put to one side and just pick up and carry on it was like a dream come true, that could never be done with oil paints where there is too much clearing up and tidying away and leaving the work somewhere safe to dry, i am never ceasing to be amazed by how many comments i am still getting on those boots it is up to 32 and still going up!, i have never had anywhere like that many comments on anything else i have posted, anyway that is enough rambling on so bye for now x

This was a private commission from the person depicted. It was executed in pen and wash in order that it should pair roughly in size and tone to one done many years ago of his grandfather playing golf!
