Lovely painting Alan, simplicity itself but tells the story of the day.

Lovely use of different greens, Alan - the sunny foreground and the more muted distant trees.

Missed this one before Alan, [ wish they'd have one page with all days posts on it, would make life so much easier!] You have a super gallery and I love this one!

I missed this one, too, mainly due to the amount of 'blanket bombing' with postings that goes on. New work can often stay on the front pages for a nano second, which is a shame. This is brilliant, Alan, as it is so 'English' and I don't mean because the subject is cricket. I mean the painting has such a wonderful sense of the English landscape with the iconic colours. I also see that you have gone as far as you can with simplifying the scene without losing enough of the detail of the players to tell the story. It is actually the simplicity of the scene that makes this painting work so well - so many cricket paintings have a lot of distractions in them, i.e. clubhouse, scoreboard, etc and I think you have shown very clearly that these are not necessary. Like this painting a lot.

Sorry - don't think that makes sense - I think I meant to say ' I also think that you have gone as far as you can with simplifying the scene without losing so much of the detail of the players that it affects the telling of the story'. Hope that is clearer!

Thank you all for commenting, much appreciated. Thea, I understood what you meant to begin with!! I struggled with this painting as to begin with, it appeared as three seperate bands of colour (to me). The cricketers helped in joining them together but I wasn't happy until the foreground was put on in an impasto style with a pallette knife leading the eye in to the action..........it may be difficult to see this from the photo.........but I was happy with the result.
