South Downs Evening

Lovely painting Alan, I like theforeground grasses, did you paint them in or scratch them out. They have created good strong lights against the darks of the main painting.

Thank you for your comments, Fiona. The grasses were scratched out using my trusty old penknife and the blunt end of a brush. As you can see the penknife also picked up some of the darker underpainting and created the grasses against the sky......so both light against dark and dark against light!!

Almost missed your painting Alan. A feeling of being right there , a pause, then on up the hill. A good work using brush, knife etc.

Alan I love that sky and the broody hills, great selection of harmonious colour.
