I do like your oil paintings, Alan, especially the snow scenes, they have a lovely soft quality to them. I particularly like the foreground in this with the detail in the trees and the crisp white snow accentuated by the lemon yellow.

Lots of colour here to brighten this this winter scene. As Jenny says those wintry trees are very well done. Hard to appreciate such a large work on my little mini iPad screen!

Another classic Bickley with a very loose and I guess quick sky and then more detail as we come forward.

Excellent sunlight effect Alan. I covered up half of this and two great scenes worked perfectly too.

Magnificent Alan! I love the colours you have used for the snow and the whole scene is an absolut delight.

Another lovely scene so well painted in your unique style Alan. I liked the comment stating how loose it is in the background, with the details intensifying to the foreground. I learn something every time I look at your paintings, thanks.

Lovely work Alan I like the spontaneous feel to it and the freshness first class mate

Beautiful lively painting, always interesting Alan.

Another stunner. I really like the way you have painted the trees ... vaguely eerie!?

Gorgeous! Particularly like your depth of focus and the suggestion of detail on the tress in the foreground. I so admire how free and expressive your work is Alan.

That red interests me .... granted it's only a technical detail in a marvellous painting, and the trick is knowing just where to use it, but even so ..... I'm wondering what it is: a mix of Cadmium Red Deep, or Cad Red Medium, with an earth red? You have many secrets, but I think your use of reds is one of the keys to the success of your paintings .... I must sneak up to your studio and peek through the window..

Thank you all for some great comments, although I feel that this oil was perhaps my least favourite out of the current series, a little overworked perhaps.

Robert, thank you but I have no secrets, I do of course use the Cadmium reds that you mention, but I particularly enjoy using Terra Rosa and Venetian Red, probably the latter is what is showing through on this work. I always use W&N Artists' Oil Colour.

Do you know, (well no, of course you don't, why would you....?) I've never used Terra Rosa - just about every other colour you could mention except Blue-Black, but never Terra Rosa.

Venetian Red, though, is a favourite colour in all media. I shall try the T-R one of these days. I believe of course that you have no secrets, and you are to ignore the face pressed against your studio window as a figment of your imagination, and not set the dog on me. On it, I mean.

Another winner Alan. I agree with what has already been said about the stunning touches of red. Also the colours in the snow are so lively. You have managed to make this winter scene very inviting.

As everyone has already commented those colours in the snow are great, but then you know just how to handle colour, and those winter trees are magnificent.

Alan, I have already commented on this but it seems to have disappeared.....honest!lol I love the foreground shadows and the first tree line. The lovely crisp snow bank just before the bridge and everything else fading out into the distance. It's another beauty Alan!

This is stunning, Alan. I love the dreamlike feel of the piece. A painting with fantastic depth!

Alan - this has to be one of the my favourite snow scenes I've seen - love it
