Super painting Alan! So much to look at, the flowers at the front are so exiting, the grave yard and the church are full of life if one can say that about a grave yard. All in all fantastic.

Love this composition Alan, the flowers look great.

Yes, for a church and grave yard, it's positively buzzing with life! Love the variation of flowers and foliage and the suggested pen work around petals etc. Very free and descriptive. A really good balance of colours too.

Superb vibrancy and a really great composition. Your paintings exude confidence which makes them very easy to view.

This most definitely has the Wow factor Alan, love it!

I love the "in your face" flowers in the foreground to lead you up to the church. Lovely work

Like your technique Alan. I've never heard of Plaka and had to google it! It looks good, a nice matt finish against the inks. I'd thought it was gouache at first until I read your description. Is there some wax resist in there as well?

Thank you all very much for your interesting comments.

Louise, yes there is a bit of wax resist here and there. I've been using Plaka for 25 years, water resistant and the main point is it dries flat, as you have said. It used to be available in the UK in a very small range of colours, but I see that Jackson's are now stocking the full range. An American product RJ tells me. Well worth a try, I'm sure you will like it. Alan

Thanks for the info Alan.

Fabulous juxtaposition and the foreground throws you towards to the church.

Full of interest and colour Alan!

Stupendous, Alan! Full of verve and life, the detail is wrought with great painterliness and the whole piece is redolent with atmosphere.

Ink and Plaka on Fabriano 300lb HP. 11 x 15’’ Sandon Church is just a mile or so from my house, situated next to Sandon Hall on the Earl of Harrowby’s private estate. I have of course painted it on many occasions in all media and in all season’s. Similar style to my very first posting on this site, only that was A1 size. Not the most picturesque aspect, but it gives me the low vantage point looking up at the church, which adds a bit more drama to the scene.
