This show how well you have advanced Adele. So well done.

A complicated scene and a good effort Adele, lacks a bit of depth as in the shadow structure on the building's particularly, but you probably know that anyway.

Great effort Adele. Love the textures.

And thanks for the Birthday wishes Adele. Much appreciated.

A complicated scene well tackled Adele - I share your love of sepia although I've not painted one for some time.

Nice work Adele, the sepia suits the scene, with all the old stone buildings.

Thanks everybody for your comments. As this was a very early painting, I can see lots of areas where I could have improved. As Alan points out, a lot more shadowing could have gone in on the buildings. I also added the children for more interest, but looking at it now, I think some shadow could have gone beneath them as to my eyes they are floating. It is good to look back though and see the improvements made over the years, as John says.

This is really fantastic you are so talented the colours are amazing this has so much depth.

Thank you Donna.

This is a cracker Adele one of your besi love the buildings.

Conveys that old fashioned austere look. Well painted Adele.

Love the effect of the sepia, which creates a very appropriate feel for the era. It's a very creditable early effort, Adele. Wish mine were half as presentable!

Very atmospheric Adele. I love the children on the road playing ball.

Sepia suits this subject so well Adele and you've created a convincing atmosphere of age.

The sepia tones are lovely and compliment the Victorian figures.

Beautiful painting, Adele - the limited palette works so well...

Thank you for all the lovely comments everybody. I'm pleased that such an early painting of mine has got such a positive response.

About the Artist
Adele Elgood

When I was a young girl my parents had a large mirror which had an etching of a "crinoline lady" on. I would spend hours copying this. In the 1960's when I was at Secondary school, I was told to give up painting and drawing as I was useless and would never be any good. Following these words of…
