I think you've done this wonderfully Adele. It is not an easy medium to achieve such a level of detail in as you have managed here. It's Super.

Well I never cease to be amazed, this is really good Adele and well done for giving it a go. The paper does need to be slightly damp not wet use some blotting paper if you have some.

Brilliant Adele! Good for you trying this out.

Wow Adele! This is great. I love it.interesting effects and great energy.

Brilliant result Adele!

Thank you all for your encouraging comments. Once I got going I really enjoyed it. Alan, It has definitely whetted my appetite, so thank you for your demo - will probably need to ask for more advice as I try further attempts.

This a lovely 2nd attempt you should definitely keep trying. Annette Scholefield

Beautifully done Adele! Great drawing and the print has come out so well.

Thank you Annette and Satu.

This has worked well, Adele, you've got some nice controlled lines which I found difficult with the acrylic I was using for mine. Did you use a Perspex base?

Yes I used some Perspex Jenny. I put the acrylic on a little thinner that the first attempt and smeared it to the edge of the pencil lines of the tracing underneath so that it wasn't thick on the edges. I will have another go and see if I am as lucky again.

Just been having a look at your gallery Jenny, and those monoprints are not at all bad. Don't forget I used a very small image, which I think must be easier to do, whereas you used more intricate ones. Also I use Golden Open Acrylics which don't dry quickly. I am also going to have a go at the lino prints at some time. You've got a very nice one in your gallery.

Thanks, Adele, I might get some of the acrylics you mention - I'd been practising with a real cheap one from WH Smith, but it's a bit slippery to apply and dries quite fast - and I found it worked best on my most expensive watercolour paper, which is a bit of a pain! I'm also planning to do some more lino cuts when I've got some printing ink - used watercolour for those on my gallery.

Monoprint using Open Acrylics - Prussian Blue Hue and Titanium White. Inspired by Alan Bickley, I have now stopped "faffing around" and had a go. Couldn't show you Attempt No. 1 as in my haste I printed it on the wrong side of the paper, which had an old underpainting on! I can assure you though, it was rubbish. The paper was too wet and I applied to much paint so it smudged and ran. However, I learnt from that. Much trickier than I first thought. Will be doing more though.

About the Artist
Adele Elgood

When I was a young girl my parents had a large mirror which had an etching of a "crinoline lady" on. I would spend hours copying this. In the 1960's when I was at Secondary school, I was told to give up painting and drawing as I was useless and would never be any good. Following these words of…
