WOW he really is fierce , no stroking this one. he is gorgeous what may I ask is fibre art, (see! I told you I still need help!!) well done Adele

Another WOW from me Adele. This is fabulous, it must have taken you ages! What a marvellous effective art this is, his eyes are wonderful. Would you frame this behind glass? I'm being very curious - do you draw the outline first or what? So very clever.

Thank you Tao and Margaret for your lovely comments. The support is 6mm thick pre-felt which is the stage the wool is at before it is compressed into ordinary felt - this thickness means I can put layers of fibres in. The coloured fibres are the stage before it is spun into yarn. These fibres are very delicate and fly away. I draw the outline of the picture on the felt and then fill it in with the fibres, matching or blending colours together. I made myself a sample colour chart of all the colours I have. You can either blend directly on the picture or blend colours together with carders which are like dog brushes. A special long needlefelting needle is used to punch the fibres into the pre-felt. This needle has small barbs along the shaft and you lay the fibres where you want them and push it in with the needle which catches the fibre in the barbs. You can put this under glass, but I think the beauty of the texture would be lost. Possibly would work well in a wall hanging. It does need handling carefully when finished as it is easy to catch and pull the fibres.

How can you resist that Stare!!! Excellent!

You really have got 'Fibre Art' mastered, Adele. The colour blending of the feathers and that little bit of light on his beak, perfect!!

Absolutely stunning. Just gorgeous colours, love the fluffiness, and those expressive eyes! He looks very tactile the way you have done the fibres too.

I don't know I don't see him as fierce but if you say so Adele. Great work!

Thank you for your comments Gudrun, Skylar, Jennifer and Sandra. I'm not sure I have got it mastered Jennifer - probably lots of improvement to be made. Chas is encouraging me to try a ferocious lion next but it looks really hard.

You are right Ibolya - it was more tongue-in-cheek! Thank you for your comment.

Beautiful eyes and I love the soft feathery look it's so effective Adele. Interesting technique.

yes Adele this caught my attention immediately got a lot of oomph I like it

Superb eyes as well Adele, a captivating piece indeed.

Thank you very much for your encouraging comments Carole, Dennis and Alan.

Clever lady! It sounds an intriguing way to make stunning artwork and this really is stunning Adele.

I know a fibre artist who considers herself an expert and gives demos etc but I find her work uninspiring and I think yours is far superior. This is stunning.

Thank you very much for your comments Sarah and Val. I don't consider myself anywhere near to being an expert, I just love experimenting with the fibres and it gives me the textures I really love.

Lovely work Adele. The colour of the eyes depict that this is a twilight hunter.

Thank you for your comments Linda. I didn't realise that you could tell such things by the eyes.

This is amazing, Adele, love the colours and the shine on the beak is very effective. (Look forward to seeing the lion!)

Thank you Jenny. The lion looks very complicated but I am going to give it a go. It will probably take a bit longer than the ones so far as there is quite a lot of detail.

Excellent work Adele

Thank you Dermot.

This looks wonderful and he does look fierce. Thanks for your comment on my J S Smiths brewery painting.

Pleased you like him Stephen.

About the Artist
Adele Elgood

When I was a young girl my parents had a large mirror which had an etching of a "crinoline lady" on. I would spend hours copying this. In the 1960's when I was at Secondary school, I was told to give up painting and drawing as I was useless and would never be any good. Following these words of…
