In the unlikely event that anyone is interested in WIP’s and in the interest of keeping the forum alive, this is my current oil which I started this morning, after my daily sketch routine! Much of it is the ground still showing through, so a lot of that will go - I’ve just concentrated on the composition, as in the placement of the main tree structures in particular. It will eventually be a snow scene, with shadows stretching across the foreground etc…all basic stuff… I was going to start another industrial landscape, I’ve got four completed which I haven’t posted as yet. But decided to do something simple, something where I don’t have to concentrate… enjoyable indeed! Panart cradled panel, 40 x 50cm (16 x20in)

That looks lovely already Alan. Sometimes it’s just pure enjoyment when you paint something where you’re not solving problems because you’ve been there so many times. And why not? You may have done it before but because of that it may result in something even better. ( That’s what I tell myself anyway!)

I ALWAYS enjoy WIPs - even those that don't work out have points of interest, this will work out, of course; and it's a case of a picture saying a thousand words - if you can follow the process through these stages, you can see what the artist is up to without a whole screed trying to explain it.  So lay on, Macduff - or something...  I'm sure your works in progress are appreciated by many others as well as  myself.

I always enjoy seeing WIP. It is interesting to see the progress of a painting and how the finish point is achieved.

Well obviously a few of us at least are interested in seeing a good WIP! Sometimes people (including me) don’t make the effort to comment but I’m sure many are looking in.  I like to see a good painting develop.

Looking good already Alan, I’m a fan of wip should be as I post them often enough . It so nice to see your work in progress and whilst I don’t use oils there is always something to learn from watching such a skilled artist at work.

Stage 2. I’ve removed the tree to the right of the oak, just deciding whether to put a smaller one in its place… Indoor photo so rubbish colour and daylight lamp is hitting the top portion - but you get the idea!

Alan, comparing the two I think the third tree made it look a bit overcrowded. I much prefer this composition. It's looking beautiful. What do I know though. Maybe a smaller tree in It's place and my opinion may change again.
