I agree with Denise, this version looks better much less crowded. I don’t think it need a replacement, it better being able to see the distant tree line etc , and adds depth beyond the buildings . I tells me the story of walking down the lane heading to the buildings , and seeing the far horizon on my right that will be obscured by the buildings and tree as I get closer.
Thanks guys… I’m undecided so I’ll sit on it for a while… not literally I hope!
Well I’ll put my penn’orth in….no extra tree but perhaps the odd bit of light on the left side of the tree, looks a wee bit dense ( even though it may well be in reality).
No extra tree it is then… but I’ve decided to drop in a few ‘saplings’ in the hedge to the right of the buildings… it just needs a bit of height to break into the large sky area! Light! You want light Marjorie… then you shall have light! I’ve seen the light! Nowhere near finished yet, I’ve got a bit bored with it actually, nearly scrubbed it off earlier!
Let there be light!😆 I like the idea of saplings too - “balance”.
I am looking forward seeing how this develops.  As a watercolourist and not knowing much about oils it is a revelation that you can decide to remove a tree and add in other details as you go.  I do like the painting so far.
Please don't get bored with it Alan and scrub it off! I too like the version without the third tree and am looking forward to seeing it with the saplings if you put them in. Looks like we're all enjoying seeing it develop.
Maybe place the largest tree further into the foreground and a little to the right, then add your small portion of hedge to the left of it, it will show the point of interest in the middle distance, a bit more. Those building deserve to be shown off. This is developing nicely, it has a lovely atmosphere. Just a thought for your consideration.

Thanks again for your suggestion… I’ll have a look at that idea Carole, although bringing a  tree forward could upset the balance. I’m leaving it to dry a bit before I take another look. I’ve been working on a series of industrial landscapes, so I’m finding this composition a bit underwhelming… but I’ll persevere and finish it!
Taking another look, I can see it would be a fair bit of work to reposition the tree, and your right its all about the balance. I'm looking forward to seeing the final painting, Alan.
Well, you'll upset us all if you scrub it off now - so don't do that! Getting bored with a picture - hmm.  I would normally say, though not in this case, if you're bored with it it's unlikely to work and you maybe need to turn it to the wall for a while and have a crack at something else.  I think in your case, though - you're very capable of getting right back into it and rekindling your enthusiasm, once you approach it again with a re-charged palette and a few nice clean brushes.   We all hope you will, clearly. For myself - I have a canvas all ready but can't make up my mind whether I should use portrait or landscape format; annoying, when you want to crack on with paint, but committing to a painting when you have doubts about the format can be asking for trouble .... lots of sketches first, I think: the canvas has been turned and re-turned so many times that I shouldn't be surprised if it's feeling dizzy.
