Well of course there isn’t space in these articles to go into great depth on many of these techniques, but just enough to give you a taster for exploring further perhaps!
The Artist magazine will be with subscribers by possibly next Wednesday, digital often earlier, I have both, the digital one is sent free as a contributor to the magazine. Part one of my series starts in this edition.
The quality of the photographs in the digital is exceptional, but on balance I do prefer a hard copy to flip through.

I've got a digital subscription to The Artist - but I'm with Alan: I much prefer a paper version - they do a very good job of it, but anything on a screen is more difficult to read, at least for me. I stopped buying the hard copy because I was being threatened by mountains of magazines looming over me, but I feel a new year's resolution coming on - get the magazine in its traditional form, and house it in binders.

Yes, I do know what you mean here Robert!
I take both TA and LP, and also Artists & Illustrators so it doesn’t take long to be inundated with them.
Luckily I pass many of them on to both my daughters, also my sister takes a few when she visits, which she obviously hasn’t been doing for some considerable time!
I like to keep certain issues, and of course the ones where I may have an article, or indeed competition entries etc featured, I’ve no idea why I do... I never return to them.
Binders are an idea, I will look into that one, although my bookshelves are already bursting to capacity with art books and related topics.

I get hard copy of The Artist as I do not like to read too much online. But I have come to the conclusion after 10 years that I cannot keep them all. So I am giving recent ones to friends after reading them and gradually putting old ones in the recycle bin. My husband is a hoarder and the house cannot cope with 2 of us with the same trait.

Linda - I live in one room, a bedsit, with kitchen and bathroom off: it's a very large room, but full of books, and obviously bookcases, the occasional bottle of something revivifying, on racks or under the bed - I really can't afford to hoard, but - I do. My late mother said "I pity whoever has to clear this place out when you die!" - she had a way of calling a spade a spade - but I console myself with the fact that, by then, I shall know nothing about it; and anyway - it'll probably do 'em good. They might stop to read a few of the books.

Robert do you have any relatives who can help you out with a bit of storage space for your painting. I have just recieved my copy of the magazine through the post and went straight to page 42. It was an excellent article Alan for a beginner like me, I enjoyed it and can't wait for your next article.

I would say you have got it spot on Alan. It all made sense and a good basic foundation to follow and build on. I will be taking a look at some decent brushes and the paragraph on the use of mediums was very useful for me and anyone beginning. You touched on a little of the basics you need to get started. Anyone wanting to try oils should read it and make a start on getting a bit of equipment.
