Any help and advice always appreciated, this is the stage I have got up to so far, internet free ref photo but apart from the initial sketch I have gone with my own colours and some additional rocks to the foreground.
Just keep going Linda, I’m liking it so far. The background cliffs look superb but you can still add further muted earth colours as you progress. I know a lot of amateur artists do this,  I’m talking about leaving areas untouched such as the cottage. Much better in my opinion to just sweep colour over the whole canvas with local colour and then build up your cottage with colour on top. Often when you work this way and ‘cut in’ a building afterwards, it just doesn’t all gell together somehow. But it’s your painting and not mine!

Thank you Alan, I knew you would give me some good advice, especially on the cottage, I know what you mean, it could look like it's just been plonked there 😏
Working all over the painting at once, good - coming along nicely.  Strongest tones in the foreground, otherwise those distant cliffs won't look distant enough.
Thank you Robert, I appreciate your advice, will leave it a couple of days then go back to it.
I cannot offer advice as I don’t use oils,  I do think it looking really good already , the rocks and cliffs have a definite ruggedness to them and the colours are great.
That’s looking fabulous Linda, look forward to seeing the result.
I have never used oils myself but think it’s looking good so far. I look forward to seeing your progress Linda.
Thank you Paul, Fiona and Gillian, still getting to grips with the oils, leaving it for a couple of days to let it dry which it should do today, it's already getting very warm!!!
I'm sure Alan's right about bringing the whole picture to an equal state of readiness - or more or less equal - but from a viewer's point of view I find this fascinating, because it's like a jig-saw: we're just waiting for the missing bit - I want to see the cottage!  You tantalizing devil.....
So here we are at the moment, have altered the rocks along the bottom, wasn't happy with them and decided to bring more grasses and brush to break it up. Still no sign of the cottage Robert, will leave it till last!!! worked a bit more on sky and cliffs.
Well there’s some lovely work going on in this painting Linda, the background cliff faces are exceptional! The foreground is better and looks like there’s some texture amongst it all, that’s good. But... that cottage! get it smeared over with something off the palette and you’ll find it much easier to deal with. It looks to me as though you’re putting of the inevitable, but it has to be done next anyway to finish it all off.
