I decided  to concentrate on painting some old trucks , one of my favourite subjects but they need to be rusty. My daughter and her husband can’t understand why I paint old  rusty trucks , ships etc  when perfectly good photos are available. Simple is the reply it’s the challenge of getting the rust to look good and  in my humble opinion a painting looks different and dare I say better or more pleasing at least . So here it is from the start the original sketch and a few base colours added I do hope I don’t make myself look a fool and mess it up , I will post it even if I do.  I do have three other paintings on the go that I need to finish off as well, quite restless at the moment and not getting stuff finished off or I make a mess of them by not concentrating.

Ah, my favourite subject matter! Loved how you handled the rust on the last truck, really looking forward to seeing this one progress.
Thank you Anth, I will certainly try my best as it’s certainly one of my favourite subjects to paint.  If any rust was on your car you would have it cleared off ASAP, but for some reason it really appealing to  paint along with the fading paintwork  and decay.
Some more base colours added and using the paint to form the shape of the tank on the back of the truck. It’s an imaginary scene based on photos of abandoned fuel depots and trucks , the storage tanks in the background will be rusted but I will keep the colours faded so it doesn’t detract from the truck.  Please do feel free to ask questions if you have any .
This is looking great Paul.
Much patience and a reasonable degree of accuracy coupled with a steady hand needed for this type of work, definitely not for me then…excellent so far Paul!
Lovely rusty colours Paul
Thank you Denise , Alan and Helen for you kind comments. It’s the steady hand that I have problems with Alan , but as I was advised a couple of weeks ago use it or loose it , good exercise for my hands and fingers . I manage with splints and pressure gloves otherwise it would no painting for me . Still it’s worth the effort and I usually enjoy the finished paintings .
Sounds like hard going Dixie, but you get excellent results so keep at it pal! I love seeing work in progress and find it so interesting to see how other artists work.
Thanks Tessa I certainly won’t give up its painting that keeps me reasonable sane and I can use the excuse it’s good for my hands the constant said do . Painting is much better then any medicine or therapy but  then I suppose it is a therapy in its self.  I have to admit to having a for liking doing Work in Progress, it keeps me more focused and makes me get on with it .  I enjoy the interaction with people as well that’s why I do the workshops for the National Trust .
Lovely rusty truck. It's great Paul.   Don't know if you have seen the work of Avie Solidini  ( will check spelling})  she is a member here on POL though I haven't seen her post for sometime  but she is discoverable. I think she is the queen of rust though not of vehicles .  Her stiff is old keys and locks.   Look forward to this being finished.   Sorry your paws are playing up again.
The painting is coming along great Paul !  Loving the rust! You really ‘do’ rust so well!
