Started this off last weekend, not done anything more to it with the weather being too nice. Ref photo from my daughters daily walk through the woods at Wickersley. Did a rough sketch outlining colours, so will take it from there.
That's lovely Linda. Love to see how it's taking shape. Do enjoy the lovely weather
Look forwards to watching this develop, I’m always fascinated how people plan and start their paintings.
Always interesting to see how a painting develops. Looking forward to future posts of Bluebell Woods.
Thank you Marline, Paul and Stephen for taking the time to look, progress will be slow I fear, its been too nice to be indoors painting, might as well make the most of this good weather!!
My painting seems to be on hold at present Linda, so lovely to see you cracking on with yours! Looking good so far.
Hi Linda, I note you understand the importance of patterning areas of light and shade to make the picture lively and interesting. Good luck with the rest of it. I've just posted a bluebell wood pastel painting, which was an enjoyable challenge.
Thanks Barrie, my little preliminary sketch looks like a paint by numbers 😁 but I have been taking some advice from Alan and Robert on oil painting which has really helped me, hope to get going with it later this week if the weather is going to change.😏
A little bit more work this morning!! all comments appreciated good or bad!!!
Looking good so far!  You're at the 'just thickening the paint' stage - lights on darks.  Easiest thing now would be to lose the darks, but you won't, of course!
Thanks for taking a look Robert, i'll try not to start fiddling too much with it and keep those darks!!
Yes, these darks are vital in a strong sunlight setting! And it is looking good Linda... but... here we go again - I can’t resist and you did ask! I think the trees on the horizon should be in shadow, silhouette if you like. Not black of course, a warm blue/ grey possibly but you need to play around with that colour. Keep them solid, and I would also paint the foliage of these trees in the same colour as the trunks. Sounds ridiculous I hear you say, well that’s how I would do it, it’s your painting. The twin trunked larger tree is generally fine, drag some darker areas up from the base, same tonal value as your darkest darks. This will make it look like it belongs there.
