... so as the magazines drift toward online only...
Norrette Moore on 12/06/2025 11:27:11
Is this a feeling you have, in terms of it being 'likely', or do you know if there are moves afoot, Norrette? Thank you.
Hi Gerry, I have no inside knowledge at all. Just something that might be inevitable in a couple of years or so.
It’s rather disheartening to read this thread, but it’s speculation and personal opinions mostly, but I say that with respect to each contribution made here. But i must say if the site was to close, I get the feeling what is the point of keeping uploading images only to have it all dismantled. Many of use have been with the site many, many years, but yes everything in our present experience is temporal. A point about the magazines which I subscribe to in online form. I thinks its better because myself i do not like storing magazines after reading them. But the good thing is I have the whole library of them  on the website and i quite often go back to look at the back issues.
The thing I question about a family business is, when things appear to be running relatively smoothly and the customers appear content, now I know we are friends but to a business, we are all potential customers who will plough our cash into thing we are happy with. I question what sort of a company is happy to let good people go. Who seems to do a good, overall job of it all. I question its loyalty to its employees and hence judge their treatment of their employees to their likely treatment of their customers. I do weigh information in balance and consider it deeply before making a comment. I can say  reading all the comments here, along with my own thoughts, I am beginning to feel disappointed.
This is a sad thread. I agree with Gerry I paid to be a member as part of my subscription.  I paid for a year's hard copy and digital as I tend to like to cut out and keep articles.  I would be very upset to lose any part of the online  platform. Especially if this company are taking subscriptions,  yet might not support this. I only joined on the 1st May this year so do not understand  most of the back story. But I had wondered when this Dawn left, do you know why she did?  Also when she left how did you become moderators. Did the company ask you, with a view to keeping it going. It's quite confusing for newer members. I did take a  look back at the forum to a year or so ago and it did seem that a lot more people were taking part. I presume this was when the said Dawn was the moderator. It would be an awful loss after the hard work you obviously do as moderators to lose the platform.  Plus from a purely selfish viewpoint if it shut down when I've not long joined i would be a tad miffed.

Nobody has said anything about the website shutting down, so let’s get that straight and stop all this speculation! For information to our newcomers, Dawn Farley was the online editor, the moderators were installed well before Warners took control of the magazine and website. I’m still in contact with Dawn, she was a great editor and respected by all of us all. Her sudden departure was a shock to us all, and not her decision… I’ll leave it there!
Please be aware that there is no actual evidence or date etc for closure of the facility, it’s pure speculation . Of course I cannot say it won’t happen as like everyone else I do t know nor do I have any contacts to ask . I’m guilty of speculating and that will have contributed to the anxiety being expressed, I like some other are working on a gut feeling, not hard evidence or information. Once something like this take hold it difficult to stop the anxiety people feel , I apologise if my statement has caused any anxiety and concerns. This topic has been aired and discussed several times over the last couple of years and we have always bounced back, I would suggest that we concentrate more on being positive and use the forum and gallery to its full benefit, of course as a moderator I will feed back any information given to me by the editorial team and I’m sure my fellow moderators will do the same .   I will definitely not be posting any anxieties I might have nor speculate on the subject in future. Once again my apologies to you all for contributing to any confusion and anxiety I may have caused by my contribution to the discussion.    Message to self , think more before I post anything else.
Seems I was writing at the same time as Alan , not planned honestly.
Thank you Paul and Alan. I only asked about moderators as I thought maybe you were all brought in when Dawn left. Just a throw away question. Thank you for your explanation.  Also bare in mind most of us newer members had no idea of takeovers etc. And Paul, I'm very like you. I get gut feelings about things too. I agree also concentrating on the forum and gallery  is probably the positive way to go. Don't beat yourself up Paul.
Paul, I shall take your post as good advice, rather than being made anxious, and will try to contribute more along the lines you suggest. I do use this site quite a lot, a bit sporadically, and appreciate being part of this community, especially as I am so far away.
Well said Sandra. I've had a good think about my somewhat knee jerk reaction. I think being part of this community is very important to me, and I'm sure many. I live in Glastonbury which you would think would be a hub of artistic activity. It's not. It's to transient a town. Nothing lasts long. Moving here eleven years ago from a big art community was one huge shock, which in turn became lonesome.  Finding this community has literally changed my life, on several levels. Everyone is friendly and supportive, the moderators etc are uber helpful (thank you ), I can show my quirky paintings and i now paint most days, and I feel I belong. So when something happens to you that good you are always a bit scared it will end. I would also like to just say to everyone let's keep using the platform fully. X
I can categorically say that from my communication with a senior figure at Warners yesterday, there are no plans afoot to disband this website. They are in fact very supportive of the involvement that we all make - and contrary to many opinions, they do monitor it and indeed our comments, so nothing negative please from now on… unless you feel it’s absolutely justified, in which case, speak to myself or one of the other moderators before posting it. I’m as guilty as anyone for making the occasional negative comment, but this has to stop forthwith please! It’s not helping… I know that I can rely on your support in this matter, so let’s put the past aside and give the hard-working team at Warners our support… As a moderator for the site, I’ll continue, as I know my fellow moderators will do also, in keeping a close watch for spam, AI and anything else of an unwanted nature! Thank you for your support  Alan
