Not so intrusive this time, but still an annoying distraction.  Pop ups are designed to attract your attention and thereby distract you from the main content.  Even when I try to close the pop up, I seem to be left with a box about 'Ads by Google'.   Why bother with the bottom green banner which has details of the company's registration and a link to the publishers if you are going to mask it with a  pop up.  There are non pop up fixed advertising banners on the site which are easy to ignore and don't obscure anything.  Bringing the pop up ad panel back is a retrograde step.
Really is very annoying. Seriously putting me off using POL
How long before we see the announcement...  Enjoy POL without adverts for only £5 a month! Sorry... I’m just too cynical
This is, I think, much less of a problem on a desktop pc - I was dimly aware of the pop-up ads, but they don't seem to intrude.
I no longer have a laptop and I think you may be right Alan, and George it will put me off using the site if it continues.

The return of the google pop up is annoying, but it's not blocking the message symbol this time (I'm on an ipad). I don't mind ads that are in a fixed place, that you can scroll past. But pop ups in my face annoy me a lot! Even if you close the ad, the box stays there. I just don't understand how websites get revenue from ads! Is it the ad company pays the website, or is it from people buying from seeing the ad? I've certainly never been interested in any ad on any website I ever visit. Ever.
There is a simple partial solution for the iPad - just turn it sideways to landscape. The menu can then be seen, although the rest of the menu bar is still obscured.
I agree. The pop up boxes are very irritating!
I agree too. The pop ups are really annoying at the bottom. They have a cross in the corner but has anyone managed to hit the cross to make it go? Impossible. It spoils a great site.
Just noticed this, I just scroll up and ignore.
Interesting that Google say that they’re meant to be appropriate ads, based on your browsing history. I’ve just seen a really interesting one. I think I’ll get some yellow lines painted on the road outside my house to stop the neighbours parking there, or maybe I’ll buy my next paints from Valspar - it could make for interesting artwork!
