What are you asking? Who painted it, what it's worth, what?
We have no idea who painted it - it could have been one of thousands; we have no idea what it's worth, because you've not told us much about its condition, and we don't know who painted it. If this is, as it seems to be, an early 19th century painting, on a canvas, well framed, no obvious artist - it'll be worth a few hundred pounds. Honestly, Colin - that really is about it! We don't know who the artist is - could have been many - we don't know what it's painted on - we can't see the back of the canvas, and even if we could, most of us haven't worked in auctions houses or antique shops.... I have: but I couldn't begin to value this on the information so far provided: it needs SO much more.

Would it be better to have a proper evaluation etc from a gallery than asking us here on the site. There is a lot of knowledge shared by the users of the forum, but what you are asking is a question for a specialist. Don’t know what it would cost to have it valued, look be be a quite nice painting.

Never heard of the painter 'Geo. Harnark'? Have you definitely got the name right? Might you try looking up variant names on google to check?
It may be the way you have photographed it but it seems to be that it has been cleaned on the right side? That side is definitely lighter than the left side of the painting. To be honest, I find it rather drab, not my kind of painting at all.
I tend to agree with Alan, in that it looks to have been painted by an amateur hand.
Other than that, sorry i cannot be much help.

Harnack, or sometimes von Harnack, is a German name; and this may well be a German scene. But I can't find any Harnack who was a painter.
I am curious about the half cleaned appearance of the picture, though - as if someone got half way across and then thought 'oh dear, I'm losing that golden glow' (i.e. dirty varnish).
I found a Clara Harnack, painter; wife of Otto Harnack, who seems to have been a professor of literature; but the dates aren't visible. Anyone know anything about Clara?
