Not particularly strange, because he didn’t paint copies, it’s a print - just look how flat the image is, zero texture to the surface, that’s on screen without examining it but I don’t need to. It’s a print taken from an original painted by a reasonably competent amateur hand, nothing more, nothing less - value I’d estimate at between £3 to £8 at auction, providing the frame was decent… not that you’ve asked for a valuation of course!

Thanks Alan for your information ! You are right in that I wasn’t looking for a valuation … just more info !!!  I looked on the back, bottom left , where it was slightly broken and frayed and found  … ‘No 2217 printed there! Wow.. I didn’t realise they had the ability to colour copy in those days .. Pre whatever , 1920’s. ish!  £3.00 value .. I wouldn’t sell it    When I was small ,70+years ago,I use to lie in bed imagining myself playing around that boat ?  … it has all my memories there .    Thank you Alan.    Rgds Phil

Thanks for the extra info Phil, there’s generally a lot more to be learned about a painting by looking on the reverse. I’m not sure what that number represents…but it doesn’t mean print number 2217, of that I am sure. More like a generic item number or frame moulding number from the printers or more likely the framer. Impossible to tell from a photo, but I would have more idea if I had it to hand… 4-colour lithographic printing (CMYK), has been in existence since the early 1900’s, and possibly even earlier. Continue to enjoy it anyway, there’s plenty going on for sure…

I agree. Edition numbers are usually on the border of the print. Facing outwards. You have a good reason to keep it.
Hi , any ideas on this ?

I've removed your duplicate post for you, Philip. Is this a different picture in your possession?

If you’re looking for information, we need better photos, and more of them - signature etc, we’ve got one pic to look at, and that’s on an angle. A cursory glance tells me that it’s a print… but without seeing it I can’t really tell.
Hi again Alan , Can’t find my round this site very well ? You aided me a while back on a print , thank you .   Any ideas on this one . My Gran left me .  I’ve asked Norrette Moore on this site but not sure where my messages end up ?    Many thanks. Phil
