Is it Lady Agnew if Lochnaw. JSS, Marjorie. Hope you had a wonderful holiday.
Yours is instantly recognisable to me Marjorie as JSS Lady Agnue, which bowled me over when I saw it in real life at a Singer Sargent event in London a few years back. Lewis, I think I selected too small a section to paint to give most of you a decent chance of guessing my effort, except for super sleuth Fiona!
Yes, Tessa , it is. And yes, a lovely holiday, thank you. Now I’m going to be looking for a harder    Piece of jigsaw.
I think this is a really good challenge because it’s obviously making us look at work and think more about the style of painting etc.. it reminds me of Fiona’s art classes where they have had a similar challenge, and she has produced some lovely work.
Marjorie, your Lady Agnew painting is still one of my favourites (along with your jelly babies) of your work….I studied it closely especially the way you painted the material of her dress. Easy one for me! Most of the other glimpses I’ve managed to guess without research except Ellen’s and Frank’s…..that was a difficult one! I’m thinking about the next one….. Thank you Tessa. It does make you see rather than look at the way a painting has been planned and executed. We study the artist, there beginnings, influences, achievements, peers, brush work etc then try and get something near the example with our own still life set up. We started Peploe on Tuesday, just about to post my effort so far….which isn’t very Peploe! This is a brilliant challenge. 🤗
One of my favourite artists, his paintings have always fascinated me because of their realism, and so it was a surprise when I saw how he painted the   tuning pegs of a guitar, literally black and white blobs of paint!
That looks like Vermeer's 'The Guitar Player'.  It's the books that give it away.
Well done Tony! And well done Russell! I’m a big fan of Vermeer, too.
Very good Russell, I wouldn’t have known. Your fingers are excellent, I’m not good at hands.
Well done Tony
I am learning so much with this challenge. Smashing pic Russell…and clever you Tony.
I thought I knew Vermeer, but didn't get Russell's excellent pic.  I've had another go.  A bit sketchy.  This painting often appears in documentarys not just about art.
