Love the apples sketch Tessa.
OThanks George , a couple of pen and wash sketches for me, started the boat one intending to leave it mono but later added the wash . The building took longer to sketch than the boat painting included time for the washes around twelve minutes. Its down to reading Lew post about pen sketch that I decided to give it another shot, enjoying it a lot , so blame Lew and Alan Bickley for my inflicting these on you.  Looking at them together like this I prefer the mono sketch .

A quick pen and wash sketch , more of a wash and scribble.
A couple of small (5"x7") still life 'sketches'; acrylic paint on canvas; I was just practicing.  Bottom one not finished... anyone else suffer from "not quite sure when to finish..." syndrome?   I hope this fits in with Gillian's  idea of sketching (there are some nice sketches on this forum), but then, the classic Masters used to create 'sketches' using oil paints ...
...I should add that the photo is a little dull; I did manage to make the sailing boat (top one) and the glass containers/blue glass block (bottom one) quite shiny – used Gloss Medium there.

You can sketch with most, if not alI mediums Trevor, I have used charcoal, pastels and crayons
I realise that 'sketches' can be in any number of formats/mediums.  There are some fascinating sketches on this forum challenge (I like your pen & wash, Gillian).
I think we all, at some time, suffer from that syndrome, Trevor. If I'm not sure, I put it away for a while, and look at the work with fresh eyes, nice work, also. Last evening I picked a sprig of Quince, drew it and started to paint it. My little homemade palette worked a treat.
