OThanks George , a couple of pen and wash sketches for me, started the boat one intending to leave it mono but later added the wash . The building took longer to sketch than the boat painting included time for the washes around twelve minutes. Its down to reading Lew post about pen sketch that I decided to give it another shot, enjoying it a lot , so blame Lew and Alan Bickley for my inflicting these on you.
Looking at them together like this I prefer the mono sketch .

A couple of small (5"x7") still life 'sketches'; acrylic paint on canvas; I was just practicing. Bottom one not finished... anyone else suffer from "not quite sure when to finish..." syndrome? I hope this fits in with Gillian's idea of sketching (there are some nice sketches on this forum), but then, the classic Masters used to create 'sketches' using oil paints

I think we all, at some time, suffer from that syndrome, Trevor. If I'm not sure, I put it away for a while, and look at the work with fresh eyes, nice work, also.
Last evening I picked a sprig of Quince, drew it and started to paint it. My little homemade palette worked a treat.
